The Kahlo women supported each other thru thick and thin. However the ‘Irish twins’ Frida and Cristina were the inseparable ones and Cristina was by Frida’s side for every surgery and every argument with Diego. Frida‘s Casa Kahlo became a sanctuary for single indigenous mothers as Cristina paid forward the help she too had received from her famous sister over many years.

From our base at Casa Roja, we are carrying the spirit of ’canastas basicas’ which La Ayuda started in 1952 - care packages of masa para tortillas, frijoles, azucar, jabon and cafe distributed every Saturday.
